June 2025
Monthly Recap of June
NEW Toolshare & DIY Club Opening Hours:
Monday: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
and
Friday: 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Find us at: NEP Climate Hub, 32 Turney St, NG2 2LG
We want to make borrowing tools as easy as possible. After speaking with local residents, we’ve switched our Toolshare Friday opening hours from mornings to evenings (4-8pm), so that people can pop by outside of typical office hours and even drop in at our DIY Club when picking up or dropping off tools!
If mornings are more convenient for you, no problem — the Toolshare is still open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, the Hub will now be available on Monday mornings for the DIY Club, allowing you to use the workshop space for your own DIY projects.
On Fridays, you can join the DIY Club 4-8pm to work on personal projects or join group DIY projects. Tools can be borrowed from the Toolshare without a deposit while they are being used in DIY club sessions.
Our aim is to give you the space, tools and support so that you can practice DIY, not worry about making a mess or finding room at home, learn as you go and become more confident.
“The local Toolshare was an absolute lifesaver. It allowed me to access all the equipment I needed without having to purchase tools that I would only use once or twice. Plus, it saved me from having to find space to store them in my home! The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating – they were always happy to extend my rental period if my work took longer than expected. It’s a fantastic resource for our community!”

Sponge City Planters in the Meadows
Have you seen the new planters dotted around the Meadows?
The Meadows Climate Resilience Tools (MCRT) project, commissioned by Green Meadows and MOZES and delivered in partnership with FROMTHEGROUNDUP (FTGU), aimed to enhance the Meadows’ resilience against the impacts of climate change.
The project started by consulting with the community on tools that they’d like to see added to the Meadows, with planters coming out strongly. Followed by stages of testing and design, it was decided that spongy, water absorbing planters were the tool to be developed.
Through a set of free workshops, Meadows residents would build ‘Sponge City Planters’ —designed to be placed on street corners, in public spaces, outside homes, and in back gardens.
Planters not only boost biodiversity, but also improve flood and water resilience, urban cooling, and local food production. Overall, this reduction of water run-off and increased biodiversity makes the environment more resilient to the weather-related impacts of climate change.
Check em’ out!
And the project doesn’t end here. There’s still plenty to do to make the Meadows and other local spots more resilient—with the more planters, the merrier!
We’ve produced a free ‘How to’ Guide, with all the instructions, materials, and information needed to build your own crate or barrel planter. We’d love to see more colourful planters dotted across the Meadows and Nottingham, so check it out here.
The team will also be at the Green Meadows Festival (Saturday 6th September, 12-4pm), running a Sponge City Planter workshop. We’ll have all the tools, materials and experts on hand if you would like to come along and make a planter on the day. Everybody’s welcome, so come along with family and friends!
All events are free to attend. Check out our upcoming events.
