Happy April from the Green Meadows Team!

With April showers coming in full force, it is time to shed some light on the exciting things the last month has brought us. Appreciating nature has been a solid theme throughout this month with positive news from the growing group and our first children's event of the year where they learned all about sustainability.

Green Meadows Little Helpers Clean Up Local Park and Learn About Sustainability

This month our new Green Learning Co-ordinator, Hannah, arranged a session with Victoria Primary School. On this visit, Hannah and the school children visited Queens Walk Park as part of their Keeping the Meadows Clean campaign. They litter-picked all the way from their school and around the park!

They also had an amazing story circle where they read The Last Tree by Emily Haworth-Booth. This included them acting out the story which depicts a village balancing their needs as a community and the natural resources nearby. This book is available on loan from the Meadows Library if you would like to join our students in reading it.

Victoria Primary School also received herbs and edible flower seeds from Green Meadows to inspire our young sustainability champions to learn how to grow their own food. These will be planted in the planters at Queens Walk Park for the community to enjoy.

!Save Our Library!

It was recently announced that the Meadows Library could be shut down due to insufficient funds from the council. We can’t let this happen! So many of our displays and so much of your knowledge live at the library.

We are attending a Save Our Library event which we encourage you all to attend. Details below.

The Meadows Growing Group Has a New Location!

The Meadows Growing Group has been busy this month! With spring well on the way gardening needs to start. Propagation, weeding, and composting are all on the go in preparation for this year to be the biggest harvest so far.

Nottingham City Council has allowed Green Meadows to start urban growing space in the Meadows and we are excited to announce the start of this new initiative.

The Meadows Growing Group will help residents get the garden up and running and make sure residents have the training, tools, and materials needed to achieve their vision.

For now, the group will be doing some outreach in the surrounding area, speaking to neighbours to find out what the garden could be used for. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

Brand New FREE Plastering Workshops

We are excited to announce new plastering workshops will be coming up in May. In these free practical workshops, residents will have the opportunity to work with experts and observe live demonstrations of mixing and applying lime plaster to walls.

This experience is ideal for learning in a real-life setting as you apply lime plaster backing to bare brick walls and make them suitable for insulating. By the end of the session you will have learnt the essential skills needed to carry out any plastering at home!

We would love to see you there! There are multiple times and dates over five days, have a look through our events page to see which is best for you. Click here to find out more.

DIY Workshops

As always, we have had a plethora of free DIY workshops over the month. Some of our most popular include Plumbing for Beginners, Practical Wall Insulation, and Intro to Tools. In these workshops, our experts help you get to grips with the basics of DIY for you to utilise in your home.

These workshops allow you to gain confidence in a controlled and safe environment which empowers you to rely more on your own skills, instead of others. Nobody has too little experience to join these classes as the experts work to your skill level, whilst challenging you to grow and learn.
