June 2026
We've packed a lot into the past month. As we've been preparing for the end of our lottery funding, we've been focused on keeping our projects moving forward. We also put three mural designs to the community, who then voted for their favourite and turned out to help us paint it. Keep reading to find out more.
What’s next for Green Meadows?
As our Lottery Funding comes to an end this July, Green Meadows is entering a new chapter, and while the funding period is ending, many of the ideas, resources and activities you've helped build will continue.
Green Meadows has always been about giving people the knowledge, skills and confidence to make their homes, neighbourhoods, and lifestyles greener. By listening to local ideas and working alongside the community, the project has helped people discover new ways to grow food, reduce waste, learn practical skills and improve their local environment. In fact, 86% of participants would not otherwise have taken part in activities such as growing and sharing food, composting, mending and upcycling, or caring for their local area.
One of the project's biggest successes is that many of these activities are continuing beyond the funding. Community Action Days, Edible Meadows, Community Composting and other initiatives are now working towards becoming independently led through a proposed Community Interest Company (CIC), helping to ensure they can continue to grow and benefit the local area. Updates will be shared on project pages as plans develop.
Many of the resources created through Green Meadows will also live on. Because of Green Meadows, NEP and MOZES can still offer help and advice on retrofitting through the Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT) Hub and online Insulation Guides, opportunity to get involved in a new money-saving community energy project (through the WiseGrid project), and access to a wide range of learning resources in the Knowledge Bank.
Nottingham Energy Partnership will be keeping the Green Meadows website live, making it easy to find project updates, resources and information about how to get involved. We'll be updating the website over the coming weeks, so some pages may take a little time to reflect the latest information.
The Toolshare will also be sustained through membership. For just £70 a year, anyone in Nottingham can borrow a wide range of tools for home and garden projects, helping them to save money on tools and contractors, while reducing waste by sharing resources. However, capacity is limited, so don't delay! Join now by simply registering through the website here. If you have any questions, call 0115 718 2028 or email admin@greenmeadows.uk.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Green Meadows journey so far. This isn't the end of the story. It's the beginning of the next chapter, and we hope you'll continue to be part of it.
Young minds inspire colourful underpass mural in the Meadows
A mural for the Sheriff's Way Underpass has been in the making for some time, and it’s been amazing to see it finally come to life.
The idea came directly from the community, who wanted to brighten a space used every day by people walking to the Bridgeway Centre and make it more welcoming, enjoyable and safe.
From the start, we wanted the mural to be shaped by the people of the Meadows. We partnered with local artist Fish Fingers Wrapped in Ham (FFWIH), who created three mural concepts inspired by artwork created by local Meadows children. Their imaginative drawings explored the theme Meadows Green Dream: Steps Towards a Greener Future, filling the designs with creativity, optimism and ideas for a greener future.
Children’s drawings submitted by local primary schools
The three proposed designs then went to a community vote, with Design 1 coming out on top. It brought together symbols and characters from the children’s drawings, placing them in train carriages travelling through different parts of the Meadows.
On Saturday 4th July, it was time to paint. FFWIH met us at the Bridgeway Centre, where so many of you came along to help bring the design to life. Using paint rescued from landfill, we brightened the space while reducing waste.
Massive thanks to everyone who got involved. Whether you submitted a drawing, voted for your favourite design, or picked up a paintbrush, you've helped make a positive difference to the area. It just goes to show that small actions can have a big impact. If you've been inspired by this project, why not take that first step in your own community?
Together, we can help create greener, brighter places for everyone.
The final newsletter!
As our funding comes to a close, so does the Green Meadows monthly newsletter.
Since January 2023, we've been putting together this newsletter every month, sharing updates from the Green Meadows project and celebrating all the great things happening across the Meadows. Looking back each month has been a lovely reminder of just how much can happen when people come together.
A huge thank you to everyone who's read the newsletter, come along to events, shared ideas, volunteered, or got involved in the project in any way. Green Meadows has always been about working with the community, and it's been amazing to see everything we've achieved together.
This might be the last Green Meadows newsletter, but there's still plenty going on. If you'd like to keep in touch, you can sign up to the Nottingham Energy Partnership newsletter here to hear about DIY Training, the Toolshare, the WiseGrid Project, Insulation Guides and lots more.
Thanks again from all of the Green Meadows team. It's been a pleasure to be part of this journey with the Meadows community, and we hope the connections, ideas and momentum we've built together continue long into the future.
