May was a busy month in Green Meadows. We featured in LeftLion, sharing more about the work happening in the community, and enjoyed a fantastic day at Green Hustle. There’s plenty more to celebrate too… the Toolshare officially launched its new membership scheme, and an exciting new mural is on its way to the Meadows. Read on for all the latest updates.
NEP Toolshare launches new membership
Since launching the Toolshare in December 2024 as part of the National Lottery-funded Green Meadows project, we've helped residents across Nottingham take on DIY projects more affordably while reducing environmental impact. By April 2026, Toolshare members had saved an average of £582 each and helped avoid 53 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e).
The positive response from our community has been so strong that the service is now becoming a permanent part of Nottingham’s toolkit. The Toolshare will continue as the NEP Toolshare, expanding its reach to support even more people across Nottingham and beyond.
For just £70 a year, members can access affordable tool hire from the Climate Hub, making DIY projects more accessible and sustainable. Anyone can join, regardless of where they live, as long as they can collect and return equipment from the Hub.

It’s the Great Big Green Week! What’s happening?
From 6–14 June 2026, communities across the UK will come together for Great Big Green Week - the UK’s biggest celebration of community action for climate and nature, and everyone’s invited!
Here in Nottingham, there are several events you can get involved with.
Air Source Heat Pumps Explained Workshop - Saturday 13th June, 10am-12pm
Queens Walk Community Centre, NG2 2DF
NEP’sHome Energy Advice Team (HEAT) Hub are running a free workshop, in partnership with expert installers Daikin, offering tailored guidance on air source heat pumps. Whether you’re curious about heat pumps, thinking of replacing your current heating system, actively planning an installation, or want to better understand your current system, this event is for you.
You’ll learn about how to integrate systems into your home, get info about hot water tanks, unit positioning, radiator sizing, installation, maintenance, grants, and more.

Mammoth Climate Action Cinema - Upcoming showings
For Great Big Green Week, Mammoth Climate Action Cinema will be showing 7 different inspiring films covering a range of topics surrounding climate change, sustainability and green living.
Why not go and see It’ll Never Work? A film that follows the real-life struggle of converting the UK’s first fishing boat to solar and electric power to fish at a competitive and commercial level. Showing Tuesday 9th June @ 7pm.

Nottingham Central Library’s Green Week
The Library will be hosting a range of exciting events for Green Week.
Why not head down for the free drop-in Market on Wednesday 10th June from 12pm - 7pm and meet local businesses and artists who are working to make their practices more sustainable.
Attend a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing - a compelling 50-minute film bringing the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis from Westminster to the wider public, combining expert insights with public reactions and familiar faces. Screenings will take place on Tuesday 9th and Friday 12th June. Book your tickets here.
In collaboration with the University of Nottingham and City as Lab, you can also book to see the 3D interactive model of Nottingham city. The map, which won the British Cartographic Society ‘Map of the Year’ award in 2024, is brought to life through dynamic projection, revealing green spaces, flood risks, urban development, and many geographies of the city. Tickets are free but booking is essential.
Green Meadows features in Left Lion
We were delighted to be featured in LeftLion’s June issue in a wonderful article by Lottie Limb. Head to page 37 to read about the work we’ve been doing alongside our community, and our hopes for how the project will continue to grow.
Lottie joined us at one of our Action Days, meeting and chatting to some of our fantastic community members about what the project means to them. From building new friendships to giving people the chance to get outdoors and get green-fingered, the article beautifully captures the spirit of the community here.
Most importantly, it shines a light on everything that you have helped make possible. From DIY workshops that make retrofit more accessible, to creating local growing spaces, launching a Toolshare, DIY Club, and more - the piece celebrates the collective effort behind it all. As the article perfectly puts it: “Long may it continue.”

Green Hustle Wrap-up
As part of the team at NEP, we attended the Green Hustle on Saturday 30th May - an annual festival and community project run by Nottingham-based creatives and activists, all working together to make the local green scene inclusive and drive community-led climate action.
It was a lovely sunny day and we got to speak to lots of people interested in taking climate action and making a positive difference. Our team were busy making wildflower seed bombs, chatting with attendees about our Toolshare and Future Green Learning programme, as well as taking photos in our peepboard (made by the DIY Club!)

The Bridgeway Underpass is getting a makeover…
We’re excited to share that this June, plans for the Bridgeway Underpass mural are finally coming to life.
This project is all about celebrating the area, creating a space the community can feel proud of, and putting local people at the heart of the decision-making process. Working alongside the community, a local artist will help bring to life a mural design chosen by you. Once the final design has been selected, community members will have the opportunity to paint the mural themselves through a hands-on mural painting workshop (July 4th - save the date!)
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing the artist and unveiling the final design options before opening the community vote. This is your chance to help shape a lasting piece of artwork for the Meadows.
