January 2026

Monthly Recap of January

We had a busy and exciting month, making progress with some new initiatives in the Meadows and making plans for the year. Keep reading to find out what we’ve been up to!

Future Green Learning

Our team have been busy preparing a new climate education and sustainability offer for primary schools. Building on the success of our green learning workshops in the Meadows and feedback from local primary school, the programme is aiming to help schools feel confident and well prepared for the 2027 national curriculum changes around climate education and citizenship.

The programme connects classroom learning with community action, including engaging, hands-on workshops, teacher training, and the opportunity to develop new projects.

Find out more about the offer here.

Recent Green Learning in the Meadows

Last term, the Green Learning team went to Victoria Primary School to lead five workshops for Years 5 and 6. The topic was ‘Seas and Oceans’. Pupils learned about how climate change can affect both coastal communities and wildlife, and what solutions we can find to problems like plastic pollution. Years 5 and 6 enjoyed activities such as sea-life card games, making their own sea creatures out of salt dough, and trying seaweed snacks.

Check out the pupils’ sea creature creations!

We also led a workshop on Eco-Leadership for a small group of pupils at Victoria, where pupils were encouraged to share ideas about what kind of environment they would like to see in the Meadows in the future.

First meeting for the Meadows Community Fridge

The first meeting for the Community Fridge on the 21st January was a success. Members of the community got together to discuss how to get the fridge up and running. Residents are eager to get started but we need more people on board, so if you’re interested in joining the organising team, come and join on our weekly meetings:

Weekly meetings on Wednesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm

Bridgeway Hall Methodist Mission, Bridgeway Centre, Arkwright Walk
The Meadows, Nottingham, NG2 2JD

Aged 13–25 and curious about climate resilience?

FROMTHEGROUNDUP are back with more free, hands-on workshops where you can build water-retaining planters for backyards, streets or community spaces.

When: Saturday 14 February 2026, 1–4 PM

Where: NEP Climate Hub, 32 Turney St, The Meadows, NG2 2LG

We’ll be teaming up with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust Youth Volunteers to show you how to turn reclaimed crates and barrels into functional planters that store up to 30 litres of rainwater. You’ll learn practical skills, help reduce flooding, support local food growing, and bring more life and colour to the Meadows!

Sessions include building your own crate planter, with the option to take one home (option for delivery available). We will also be building some barrel planters, planting them up with trees and donating them to local wild areas in the Meadows.

The session is free to attend - you must be between the ages of 13-25 and under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Reserve your free space here
