December 2025

Monthly Recap of December

Happy New Year from the Green Meadows team!

We’re back after the festive period and gearing up for 2026. Keep reading to find out how we closed the year, ways to get involved and the exciting things coming up this year.

Green Meadows project looks forward to a bright future with community and Lottery support

We’re delighted to share that in December the National Lottery awarded us an additional three months of funding beyond the planned end of the Green Meadows project in April 2026, giving us the time we need to ensure a smooth transition into the new arrangements.

In the past few months, we’ve been really encouraged by how much interest and support there’s been for keeping Green Meadows going after our current Lottery Funding ends. People and partners from all over Nottingham have told us they want us to carry on helping residents make their homes and lifestyles greener through our hands‑on training, resources, and support.

We are analysing our findings and looking at options for the way forward beyond current Lottery funding and putting the preferred options in place and will be in touch!

Watch out for our announcements and opportunity to help us decide our future path - a new year and new ways for Green Meadows in 2026.

Calling all Artists!

Do you want to show off your talent to the world by helping us create Murals in two pedestrian underpasses in the Meadows? If so, we want to hear from you!

About the Project:

Members of the community have been asking Green Meadows for help to brighten up the pedestrian underpasses at the Bridgeway Centre and Robin Hood Way with murals that will make for a more positive social and physical environment.

We have now secured permission to go ahead with these projects and we now need to find artists interested in helping us realise this vision - alongside and with the help of other members of the community.

Community Fridge Coming to the Meadows

The Green Meadows Ideas Fund, which offers funding to help Meadows residents bring their ideas to life, has recently been supporting Bridgeway Hall Methodist Church to bring a Community Fridge to the Meadows.

A community fridge is a shared space where people can donate or take food to prevent waste and help those in need. It's open to everyone, with food coming from supermarkets, local businesses, homes, and gardens. These fridges are run by local groups in places like schools, community centres, and shops.

Are you interested in having a community fridge in the Meadows?

Fill in the interest form here to let us know how you’d like to get involved!

You’re invited to the first meeting on the 21st of January 2026 4-5pm at the Bridgeway Hall Methodist Church in the Bridgeway Centre, NG2 2JD. The group will be discussing how to get started and bringing any produce they wish to donate.

DIY Club’s Creations

During the December months we ran festive DIY club sessions, with members encouraged to bring their ideas and craft some handmade, sustainable gifts or decorations. It was wonderful to see everybody’s creations. The group made a one of a kind Christmas tree from old pallet wood, adding shelves to cleverly display decorations.

The group haven’t just been making during the Festive period, but have also been working on various projects to bring their other ideas to life! This includes making a tool peg rack to display the tools in the workshop space. Check them out below.

Are you keen on picking up new skills in 2026? Have you made a resolution to expand your DIY skills? Perhaps to be more sustainable or pick up new projects and hobbies?

DIY Club is open twice a week every week, on Monday 10am-2pm and Friday 4pm-8pm at the Climate Hub on 32 Turney Street, the Meadows, NG2 2LG. We are open as a warm, social place to be during these wintery months. All are welcome. Come along, work together and share ideas and skills.

Menders We Need You!

Meadows Menders is launching soon - a friendly gathering where people can get help to maintain and mend the things they need and love from members of the community that know how to do it. When things are faulty or broken, we might feel like we have buy new or replace them, even though they might be perfectly fixable. The main hurdle is not knowing how or if they can be mended. This ‘repair café’ style club is hoping to be the answer to this, acting as a social space where people can share their mending skills, get stuff fixed or learn how.

Do you have mending skills?

We are looking to grow the number of volunteer menders and partner repair organisations so we are able to mend as many things as possible at our events. We’ll even help volunteers learn new repair skills!

If you would like to help mend things, please click this link to sign up or if you know somebody who might enjoy it, pass it on! We will keep you in the loop of upcoming events and ways to get involved. Everybody’s welcome, let’s get started together.

We will be announcing more exciting events and workshops soon.

Keep in touch and in the loop - sign up to our monthly newsletter here.
