Monthly Recap of November

We’re back with another monthly update. Community members had their first Repair Café meeting - what’s next? What do we have in store for December? Keep reading to find out more.

Meadows Menders - Join the Team

You may have heard that community members are banding together to launch the Meadows Menders - a friendly meetup where you can get help fixing the things you use and love from neighbours who know how. Initiated by volunteer Ron, and supported by the Green Meadows Project, they met for the first time on Saturday 15th November to start brainstorming what this might look like!

At the Co-design Workshop, the group thought about the next steps to getting started, how everybody wants it to be run, and the different things we could mend! Then, we broke out into discussion groups and everybody gave great feedback.

What came out of it? Perhaps, most importantly, to mend these things we’re going to need people with mending skills! If you have repair skills, whether that might be electronics, sewing, furniture, and want to help people repair their items, let us know by filling in our form here.

Thank you for coming along to the workshop on Saturday. It was encouraging and great to see so many of you. Your contributions have been appreciated, welcomed and thought provoking. I am looking forward to working with you and getting to know you better!

We can’t wait to see the group up, running and repairing VERY SOON.

Important dates for your December diary!

Festive DIY Club Sessions

This December, the DIY Club are excited to bring you some special festive sessions. Running on the 5th, 12th & 19th December (Fridays, 4–8pm - stay as long as you fancy) at the Climate Hub on 32 Turney Street, NG2 2LG.

Come along and make something festive! Everyone is welcome to come along with their ideas or for inspiration. We have some materials for people to use, including card, material scraps, pallet wood, wood offcuts, and foraged plant materials. We also have tools and fixings.

Here’s some inspiration from DIY club members…

Wall hanging decoration

Some great ideas include upcycling an old picture frame with second-hand decorations, spray painting an old pool noodle to make a candle holder, wrapping gifts with reusable fabric (furoshiki), making trees out of pallet wood and more. There’s a real mix of homemade and second-hand decorations. Check them out.

Come along and see what takes your fancy. Decorate tree slices, join in with making a pallet festive tree design, make cards using our stationary and spare card, or make your own idea.

Suitable for all ages - children must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.

Sign up for Festive sessions here!

Edible Meadows is taking a break

Now that we’re officially in the thick of winter, our monthly Edible Meadows sessions, where residents meet up every third Thursday of the month to grow food in the community, will be taking two months off.

Sessions will be back in action on Thurs 19th Feb.

Thinking forward? Sign up here.

Opening times during the festive break

If you take part in our workshops, use the Toolshare, or enjoy the DIY Club, you might be wondering about our opening times over the festive period.

Our office will be closed from Wednesday 24th December and back open on Friday 2nd January so our fantastic staff can take a well deserved break. During this period, the Toolshare, DIY Club and all our services will be on pause.

The Toolshare will be open on Monday 22nd Dec (10am-2pm) and back on Friday 2nd Jan (4pm-8pm). People can hire tools from the 22nd of December for two weeks.

Make sure to pop into our final Festive DIY Club session of the year on Friday 19th December.

The last workshop of the year will be ‘Make Do and Mend’ on Saturday 20th Dec.
